True Blue Memory Nectar - Anti-aging Memory Enhancement
by Lynn A. Anderson, Ph.D., N.D.

On my last visit to Amanda, she reminded me of my own mystical powers. All I did was awaken within you the sleeping energy of your mystical soul, she said. You found your way to me because it was time to remember your own mystical nature. Now you have found the essence of the alchemists quest. Use it with love and your creation will manifest.

It was in a rural seaside New England village that I learned the magic and wisdom of folk remedies. So much of New England is borrowed from Europe. In Maine the English, Scottish and French influence, combined with American Indian customs, creates a dynamic weaving of tales and magic. My childhood was no different.

I grew up on a small island off the coast of Maine. This small village called Cundys Harbor was supported by lobster fishing, clam digging, and dragging (a fishing term) for shrimp, scallops, haddock, halibut, and flounder. Because it was isolated and subject to harsh, long winters, survival meant gathering and storing the fruits of summer for the long winter months. Among the many fruits that grew wild on the island were elderberries, rosehips, blackberries, rhubarb, wild strawberries, cranberries, and wild blueberries. The berries were picked and eaten in season as well as canned, frozen, and made into jellies and jams for the long winter ahead. Berry-pickin time always meant fresh homemade pies and muffins.

Maine is the worlds greatest producer of wild and cultivated blueberries. The historical legend of the blueberry goes all the way back to the North American Indian. One of the first meals Lewis and Clark recorded having with the Indians, when opening up the Northwest Territory, was venison cured by pounding blueberries into the flesh and then smoking the meat dry. The Indians used dried blueberries in stews, soups, and with meats. In 1616, Samuel De Champlain wrote in his diary that the Indians he found near Lake Huron gathered blueberries for winter storage. After drying the berries in the sun, the Indians beat them into a powder and added the powder to parched meal to make a dish called Sautauthig. We found it to be delicious.

Ancient Indians esteemed the blueberry. The calyx (outer whorl of protective leaves) of the berry is in the shape of a perfect five-point star. In Indian mythology, blueberries were a gift of the Great Spirit. A tea or syrup was used for a cough and cold remedy, diarrhea, female illnesses, and as a blood purifier. Fumes of burning dried flowers were even inhaled for curing madness.

Scientists have discovered that blueberries and bilberries have an antioxidant capacity that may help to protect the brain from age-related diseases such as Alzheimers. The free-radical hypothesis of aging suggests that age-related changes occur as a result of an increasing inability to cope with oxidative stress, which occurs throughout our lifetime. Oxidative Stress (OS) is defined as an imbalance between oxidants and antioxidants in favor of the former, resulting in oxidative damage to molecules such as lipids, proteins and DNA. After lifelong free-radical insults upon the brain, which already shows increased vulnerability to OS, deficits are observed.

Add antioxidant rich foods such as pomegranates, blueberries, strawberries, and spinach, as well as herbs such as bilberry, ginseng, ginkgo, rosemary and sage. Exercise, reduce alcohol consumption, drugs, and cigarette smoking and you may find the fountain of youth. A healthy attitude and a busy, productive life keep the body, mind, and soul healthy and young. TrueBlue Memory Nectar is a gift of health. This nectar supports memory function by combining antioxidant herbs such as bilberry, ginkgo, ginseng, rosemary, and sage in a base of honey and blueberry flavoring. Sage and rosemary are well-endowed with antioxidants. They help the brain to hang onto acetylcholine, which researchers believe humans need to avoid the development of certain neurological disorders such as Huntingtons, Parkinsons, and Alzheimers disease. Honey and blueberry have been shown to supply nutrients (antioxidants) that promote memory and health.

Enjoy in good health!
